Cox’s Bazar is one of the most attractive tourist spots in the world. Its area is very long and charming and the tourist capital of Bangladesh. It is located at a distance of 152km to the south of Chittagong.
It was first established in 1854 and became a municipality in 1869. It is situated alongside the Bay of Bengal in south-eastern Bangladesh. Cox’s Bazar Town is a large seaport and health resort. But it is famous generally for its long natural sandy beach and connected by road and air with Chittagong.

It has many historical events. From the 9th century, it was under the rule of Arakan kings. When the Mughal Prince Shah Shuja was passing through the hilly land of the present day Cox’s Bazar on his way to Arakan, he commanded to camp there his army. There is a place in the named Dulahazara. This name’s meaning “one thousand palanquins,” still exists in the area.
Next of the Mughals the place came under the control of the Tipras and the Arakanese was followed by the Portuguese and then the British. The name Cox’s Bazaar is originated from British East India Company officer, Captain Hiram Cox, who was selected as the Superintendent of Palonki out post. Warren Hastings became the Governor of Bengal after the British East India Company Act in 1773. There is made up a market in the named of cox. After the end of British war in 1947, it is under of the East Pakistan. Captain Advocate Fazlul Karim was the first chairman there.
